Chapters 1-10

The story starts out by the land telling the king that they want a magical ruler, so the Kings sends his son Alveric to go seek out the elveish kings daughter, princess Lirazel. He brings the princess back to his land and they marry. Many years pass and finally they have a son named Orion. Lirazel becomes very sad because she does not understand the way of man kind, and why they worship what they do. Alveric is a little frustrated with her and tries to teach her the right way (his way). In the mean time Lirazel's father is deeply saddened and writes her a letter. He sends this to be delievered by a troll, once delievered Lirazel does not open it but puts it away. Some time passes and finally she deciedes to read it and once opened she disappeares back to her land. Once Alveric learns of this he goes back to where he found her (the elflin mountains) and searches and searches for. He never finds her......

Only stopping lone enough to tend to the injuries of Frodo and Sam. They get to the elven woods of Lothlorien and even though they are mistrustful of them especially of the drawf the elves let them into the land. Lady Galadriel offers to the remaining eight that if they let go of their quest then she will give them what they want. Frodo seems most affected by this.

Act II
Scene 1
This scene begins with a conversation between Puck (mischievous elf) and one of Oberons attendants (fairy). And Puck warns the fairy to keep Titania away from this part of the woods because there will be a quarrel. The fairy suddenly recognizes Puck as the one who is fritghening young women and Puck admits it.
Oberon and Titania meet and argue over the Indian boy and she refuses to give him up. So Oberon devises a plan and sends Puck to find a flower called love in idleness. He wants to make Titania to fall in love with a beast so she will give up the Indian boy, or Oberon wont lift the spell. The Demertius and Helena enter the woods, meanwhile Oberon tells Puck to anoint Demeratius eyes with the flower oil. The only problem is Puck does not know who he is.

Beowulf has been an interesting poem so far, He has returned home and taken the throne. 50 years have now passed and Beowulf is in old age now (70 years or so) and from the poem everything has been ok. Until an angry servant escapes and decides to steal a jeweled cup for a dragon that lives down in the barrows! The dragon is very greedy and becomes angry and decides to attack the Geats. Beowulf is now led to fight this dragon and he wants to do it himself. What I find interesting is that he is not sending/ waiting for anyone to do the job for him (Hrothgar). He takes armor and a sword with, along with some of his men to fight the dragon. Before this scene takes place the poet foreshadowes Beowulf's death and I'm not sure that I really like that in this poem. I don't like it because I would have liked to see Beowulf survive! Maybe its just what we are used to- the hero slays the monster and lives on. A little Hollywood? Maybe.........

Chapters 7-11
The house of Tom Bombadil was a little weird but provided the hobbits with warmth and shelter for the night. Once the rains cleared Frodo and the others set off North along the Barrowdowns, but they stumble into some thick fog. A wight captures Frodo and he wakes up in a barrow, where he learns that his friends are also lying unconsious there. The wight is preparing to kill him when Fordo begins to sing a song he learned from Tom. Tom breaks in and and saves Frodo and the rest of the hobbits.
Tom leads them to the end of the road to a place called The Inn of the Prancing Pony, he says they will be safe there for the night. Once they reach the destination Fordo uses the name Underhill as a disguise. Enjoying himself in the common room, Frodo draws a lot of attention to himself and I'm not sure if he puts the Ring on by accident or on purpose but it is put onto his finger and he dissappears. Everyone is frightened and can not understand what happens. In the mean time Fordo takes off the ring and Strider the Ranger tells him they must talk. Frodo is very uneasy because the Strider seems to know alot about the Ring. The innkeeper Butterbur comes in and gives Frodo a letter from Gandalf and the letter states to beware of bad things that are after him. He also tells Frodo that the Strider is good and will help led them to Riverdell. During this talk with the Strider, Merry suddenly bursts in to tell them that he saw the Black Riders there and they decide not to sleep in there rooms, Fordo is very frighented.

Up to line 2000
Beowulf is certainly an interesting poem/book, although it is a little difficult to understand I really enjoy it. I had never even heard of Beowulf until I began this class and I didn't realize how common the book really was.
So far Beowulf has come to the Danes killed Grendel and his mother and basically put the king and his family out of danger. He is so strong, courageous, and probably really cute! In the section were Beowulf is departing for the Danes , the reader can then begin to see that King Hrothgar is a sensitive person. You get to see that he is a good king. I really liked that part of the stroy. Beowulf returns home.

In the Anglo-Saxon language Beowulf means bear man/ bee man!
Pariah- means social outcast

The first chapter of lord of the rings basicly introduced Bilbo and his place in the stroy, the shire and all the hobbits in it live quietly and are easily satisfied. Although Bilbo has a secret (the ring) no one but the wizard Gildor, his nephew Frodo, and Sam (son of the Getter) knows about it.
Bilbo becomes seemily obssesed by the ring and leaves the Shire and the ring behind. Frodo begins a journy to get ride of the ring, along with Sam, Mr. Pippin & Merry. Along the way they meet the Elves, Black Riders, Mr. Maggot & stubble into the old forest!
-elves: very clever beings, have the shining light that they give off
-black riders: are evil slaves of the dark lord Sauron, don't know much about them yet
-mr. maggot: ownes a farm that grows mushrooms, him and Frodo go way back
- the old forest: talking willows how do not like to be bothered with live here!
